The Aquaracer has its roots firmly embedded in the early days of the Tag Heuer story. Its functionality and the basis of its design still true to the brands 1970’s divers watch design and features. The makings of the Aquaracer has been embedded in the Tag Heuer time line. In 1978 Heuer produced their very first divers watch the ‘Heuer 844’ , this was followed by the Heuer diver 1000m which was their first watch that was water resistant to a depth of 100 meters. Then came the Aquaracer , which was first introduced into the Tag Heuer collection in 2004. Introduced as the brands divers watch , the Aquaracer offers the wearer a functional and easy to use , yet classical and desirable watch .
The features of the model are drawn from the original diver compatible functions drawn up in the 1980s when the Heuer brand were first taken under the ownership of Techniques d’Avent Garde (TAG) and became Tag Heuer.
The features that were originally specified and are still part of the models functionality were a minimum of 200m water resistance , screw down crown, double clasp on steel bracelets, unidirectional bezel, sapphire crystal glass and luminous markers. The Aquaracer utilises these features to make it one of the most recognisable watches in the world. The water resistance now varies from 200m to 1000m across the range making it the ultimate water sports model.
The model is available a variety of materials from steel to precious metals , with a variety of coloured dials, bezels and movements, with legibility at the forefront of its design.
Despite being focused on functionality and to be the watch that fits all lifestyles, the range still aims to be aesthetically pleasing . There are varying case sizes from 27mm -45mm and many finishes from ceramic to diamond set bezel options with steel and steel & 18ct bracelet options. Both automatic and quartz versions are available across the Aquaracer family.
