Wrexham is one of the UKs newest cities, it was recently announced as part of the 2022 Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations that the North Wales town of Wrexham has been granted city status.                                                                       Wrexham lies between the Welsh mountains and the lower Dee Valley and is just across the English/Welsh border.  It is ideally situated just a 20 minutes from the stunning scenery of the Welsh hills and just over the Cheshire border is the Roman walled city of Chester. Wrexham has excellent transportation links to North Wales, North West England and the surrounding area with a city centre train station and the A55 connecting North Wales and the North West of England.

Wrexham has long been a busy market town and attracts many shoppers to its mostly pedestrianised shopping streets, arcades and markets. The market, held on Mondays in Queens Square offers everything from fresh fruit to jewellery.

Just 2 miles from Wrexham town centre is Erddig, a National Trust property built in the 17th and 18th century and largely rescued from falling into ruin in the early 1970’s.                                                                                                                         It attracts thousands of visitors to its historic estate with its beautifully landscaped gardens surrounding the beauty of the manor house and its well preserved servant quarters to give an authentic insight into the past.

Another popular attraction nearby is the UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pontcysyllte Aqueduct its crosses over the River Dee and sits between Llangollen, Chirk and Wrexham it is set in an area of outstanding natural beauty and attracts visitors for its industrial and engineering history having been designed by renowned architect Thomas Telford.

The crowning glory for the residents of the city is Wrexham FC, locals have a deep rooted passion for their local football team. Nicknamed The Dragons, Wrexham FC is one of the oldest professional football clubs in the world and currently competes in the National League.                                                                                                    In November 2020 Wrexham fc got surprise new owners in the form of the Canadian born, Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds and American actor Rob McElhenney giving the club a long awaited change in fortunes.  A huge Hollywood style Wrexham sign appeared on a hill above the city shortly after the takeover. In the 2021-22 season, Wrexham lost out in the play-offs to an extra-time goal from Grimsby which ended Wrexham’s promotion dreams for another season. Wrexham then finished in second place of the National League and hopes of success are high once again for the 2022-23 season.
