The small Denbighshire city of St. Asaph in North has a small community of less than 4,000 people and is the second smallest city in the UK. St. Asaph was granted city status in 2012 as part of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebrations. The city sits on the banks of the River Elwy and is surrounded by breath taking scenery of the Vale of Clwyd. Its location, just off the A55, makes St. Asaph a perfect place to stop off at or to use as a base to travel further into North Wales. The coastal towns of Rhyl, Prestatyn, Abergele, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno are all within easy reach along the A55 , also known as the North Wales expressway which leads drivers from Chester in England all the way to Holyhead in North Wales.
St. Asaph is the host of the North Wales International Music Festival, which is held there annually in September.
St. Asaph Cathedral is one of the smallest cathedrals in the UK. Much of the building dates back to the 13th century, though it has been substantially restored over the years. Many visitors stop off at St. Asaph to visit the cathedral to see its architecture and learn about its history. The cathedral is home to the original version of the Welsh Bible, which was translated in 1588 and is kept on public display for visitors to view in the Cathedral. A memorial dedicated to the Translators in the form of a Gothic tower is found in the cathedral grounds.
For such a small community St. Asaph is the birthplace of several well-known sporting, comedic and musical personalities. The former Liverpool and Welsh International football player and manager, Ian Rush, was born here in 1961. The comedian Greg Davies was born in St. Asaph in 1968 and Lisa Scott-Lee, a member of the pop group Steps, was also born here in 1975.
Just a few miles from away and across the English/Welsh border is the roman city of Chester and the home of our closest Timepiece store to St Asaph. Located In the Grosvenor shopping Centre our store specialises in pre-owned Rolex watches, so whether purchasing your first Rolex Date-just or having your submariner serviced our technicians are on hand to help.
