Liverpool is a city in North West England, it is located where the River Mersey meets the Irish Sea. From the 18th to the early 20th century, it was a major migration port for English and Irish emigrants to North America and an important port for trade. The city was also the port of registry for the ill fated Titanic which sank in the Atlantic Ocean, on its maiden voyage in 1912. Liverpool is a city full of historic buildings, many of which have been adapted to retain their architectural features but given  new purpose, to fit in with the changing needs of the city.

The city is well known for its Premier League football clubs, Liverpool FC and Everton FC. The clubs have a long-standing rivalry with many families in Liverpool identifying themselves as either reds or blues. Liverpool have played their matches at Anfield stadium since 1884 & Everton play their matches at nearby Goodison Park. A new stadium is currently under construction for Everton at Bramley-Moore Dock, approximately 2 miles from the city centre. Another great sporting connection Liverpool has is with horse racing. The Grand National takes place at Aintree Racecourse every year, with over 150,000 people attending the three day event. Liverpool has produced many artists and bands the most famous being The Beatles. The city embraces its connection with The Beatles and visitors from around the world come to see the famous Penny Lane street sign, the Cavern Club bar, The Beatles Story museum and bus tours showing the places where John, Paul, George and Ringo grew up. 

Liverpool is a popular shopping destination in the North West and many are drawn to the city centre for its vast selection of shops, cafes and pubs. The main shopping area in the city centre is called Liverpool One which is home to 170 stores, bars and restaurants. The nearby Cavern Walks has more independent designer boutiques and long established jewellery stores with jewellers selling everything from custom made jewellery, to luxury watches such as Rolex. The Mersey Estuary separates Liverpool from the Wirral to the West. The Northern boundary is adjacent Sefton. Bootle, Crosby and Maghull are to the South, and then Kirkby, Huyton, Prescot and Halewood are located to the East.Liverpool city celebrated its 800^th anniversary in 2007 and European Capital of Culture in 2008. The city had several World Heritage Sites from 2004-2021, including a large number of parks and green spaces.
